Lesson This Sunday

Sisters,
for Sunday's lesson I ask that everyone ponder the following 3 questions after reading Lesson #27;
1. How is Work an Eternal Principle?
2. How does Idleness affect us as individuals, families and communtities?
3. What suggestions do you have for teaching our children to work and to value work?
I appreciate everyone's participation in the lesson and hopefully together we can inspire one another to try a little harder and do a little better.
Sincerely,
Fronda Wiseman

Fronda, I'll miss your lesson tomorrow (I'm just pulling out of being pretty sick). But here are my comments on your questions.
1. Work IS an eternal principle. When we leave this life it is not to rest but to continue the work of the Lord. The work, I expect will be magnificently fulfilling -- a bit like doing temple work or genealogy & community service.
2.Idleness can lead to poor physical health, depression, bad habits, temptation. In families it robs each member of a level of richness and love, or bonding. In communities it's much the same only on a larger scale -- decay of the physical, mental, emotional, & general motivation, which leads to added (gov't) expense, crime, & vice. Yuck!
3.To help our kids value work, we have them share in the household responsibilities as much as possible (Martin is great at cleaning bathrooms!) We also compensate them for their efforts in the currency that is most meaningful to them (Media time, $, iTunes credit, treats...) This shows them that their work has value & is appreciated. We also try to lead by example, to show them that we also work hard.
Good luck on your lesson! I wish I could be there.

Isn't it interesting that our first example in the scriptures shows a ratio of work to rest of 6 to 1?
