Put Your Trust In the Lord

Ladies,

Our discussion on Sunday will focus on Elder Ballard's talk, "Put Your Trust In the Lord" from the October 2013 General Conference.  His message is one of encouragement for our efforts in missionary work.

As we have heard from the prophets of old, and continue to hear in modern day revelation, there is much to do in sharing the gospel - far beyond the reach of our full-time missionaries alone.  The Church has put together a wonderful resource online to help us all understand our role and capture the vision for missionary work.  If you have a minute or two, visit Hastening the Work of Salvation.  It is full of videos, talks, and quotes for your reference.
"There is a way for everyone... to participate in this great work.  We can each find a way to use our own particular talents and interests in support to the great work of filling the world with light and truth." - President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
In addition to what we may consider traditional missionary work, I would invite you to ponder other ways that you can share the gospel - using your own particular talents or interests, as suggested by President Uchtdorf. Please come prepared to share your success stories of creative missionary work.

See you Sunday!

Oakland California Temple

Shiny Reflections

The temple worker demonstrated how to spot clean smudges off of shiny surfaces. Then he handed me two towels, a spray bottle and instructions about where to work. As I worked at removing the smudges, sometimes I'd see my reflection in a newly shined surface. This reminded me of how patient the Lord is with us as he quietly sanctifies our smudges.

Someday in the distant future when we are completely polished, maybe the Lord will be able to see his reflection in us.

Strengthening and Preserving The Family

This Sunday we are studying Lesson 4, Strengthening and Preserving The Family, in the Joseph Fielding Smith lesson manual.

The family unit is bombarded today by all of the allies of Satan.  We as Latter-Day Saint women, know,
"The family is the most important organization in time or in eternity."
President Joseph Fielding Smith also said,
"We should remember, as Latter-Day Saints, that outside of the celestial kingdom, there is no family organization [after death]. That organization is reserved for those who are willing to abide in every covenant and every obligation which we are called upon to receive while we sojourn here in mortal life."

"Authority"

Normally I enjoy a good swim but after an hour of being knocked around in the ocean it was about time to be done with this part of the triathlon. During the race, the competitors swim around large bright buoys. Reaching the buoys gives a slight amount of satisfaction until you realize the distance to your next far off buoy. I had just rounded a buoy, looked up and did not see the next buoy. Some guy was floating in a boat nearby and I asked him, "Which way do we go?"

Redirection Through the Atonement

Eternal Perspective

"The Plan of Salvation"
Joseph Fielding Smith, Chapter 3

The plan of salvation... "was prepared from the foundation of the world, through Christ, for all whosoever would believe on his name" - Alma 22:13. It is God's plan for the happiness of His children and it is centered on the Atonement of Jesus Christ. If we follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, we will find lasting inner peace in this life and joy after death.

As we discuss the plan of salvation this Sunday, we will be reminded of where we came from, what out purpose is in this life, and where we will go after this life.
